As words to “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano”, began to waft through the air, the nation paid homage to the Language Movement martyrs.
Freedom fighter Ashraf Ali Khan Kharu Fisheries & Livestock Minister arrived at the Shaheed Minar five minutes before the clock struck 12, while Mayor of Netrokona Municipality Nazrul Islam Khan reached Central Shaheed Minar ten minutes before the zero hour.
It was a show of respect for those who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of Bangla as a state language on this day 66 years ago. They were the language heroes.
As the anthem of the language day came on, the minister placed wreaths at the altar at the Central Shaheed Minar, and after him came the Mayor. They stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the language heroes.
